The Ōamaru Penguin Symposium
The Ōamaru Penguin Symposium, a biennial meeting held in Ōamaru, is attended by researchers, volunteers, field workers, students and rehabilitators from all types of organisations. It involves two days of scientific presentations about anything related to penguin conservation and research. The symposium began in the late 1990’s as the “Blue Penguin Scientific Symposium” and grew to include all other New Zealand penguin species, species from outside New Zealand, and even the occasional non-penguin seabird talk!
The next Symposium will be held in Ōamaru, in May 2027. Email the convenor to receive the next newsletter (research@penguins.co.nz).
